Ok, so this is my first post on my new personal blog. I'm intending for this blog to be a sounding board for me about the way that I feel about different political, social, and sports related events and issues. I will start out with explaining my basic views in each of those areas.
As far as politics go, I describe myself much the same way that my father does...I am a social moderate and a fiscal conservative. I suppose that means that I'm slightly right of center on a political spectrum. I believe that for the most part the government should stay out of our lives, but that to a certain extent the government should help out by basically organizing certain aspects. I particularly think that if a government acts to help people, it should be done on a state or local level, as those governments have more of a barometer of what is right for their constituents.
As far as social issues go, my views have become a little more liberal because of my wife's influence on me, and because of my employment in the retail industry. More to the point, I have become open to many more viewpoints as far as who should be helped and who should be allowed to do what (read that as not being freaked out by homosexuals). Working at Banana Republic, while not making me a "metrosexual," has created more of an openness for caring about how I present myself, particularly with regard to clothing.
Sports is more of my wheelhouse, however. I watch far too much ESPN, so I have formulated pretty strong viewpoints on a variety of subjects. My favorite sports/leagues in order are: Major League Baseball, National Football League, NCAA football, NCAA basketball, NCAA baseball, National Hockey League. The NBA has lost me as a fan on more than an awareness level. My favorite teams for those sports are as follows, in order for each sport:
MLB - St. Louis Cardinals
NFL - Cincinnati Bengals, Carolina Panthers (I live in Charlotte)
NCAA football - Ole Miss Rebels (favorite team overall)
NCAA basketball - North Carolina Tar Heels, Ole Miss Rebels
NCAA baseball - Ole Miss Rebels, North Carolina Tar Heels
NHL - Carolina Hurricanes, Detroit Red Wings (can't decide which I like more)
Now that I've established a base for future posts, I'll go ahead and end this, and we'll see how often I actually post on here. Feel free to comment or attempt to debate me on any issue, though I may not respond if it is a frivolous or baseless argument.

Huzzah to the blog! How about your thoughts on which division is the toughest in the NHL?
My vote is with the Southeast-in terms of star power.
Watch out for both OSU and Ole Miss in college baseball this year. That is all.
I would have to agree that the Southeast is the toughest, although you can't really count out any of the western conference divisions based on points. I don't know a whole lot about any other division, but I'd say that because of the closeness from top to bottom that it is the most competitive, and possibly the toughest.
College baseball will be interesting this year, as the Rebs start out as a top 10 ranking for the first time since I can remember. If they can keep that up, they should be able to actually get past a super-regional this year. Should be interesting.
